Présentation de l'éditeur
Practical Cardiovascular Hemodynamics provides an in-depth understanding of waveforms and tracings seen in varous disease states as well as pathophysiology behind those findings. Practical issues that are rarely discussed or focused upon in textbooks are highlighted in this book with detailed waveform analysis. Caveats in the hemodynamic assessment of valvular diseases, constriciion, tamponade, pulmonary hypertension, shunt pathology, and right and left ventricular failure are provided. Practical Cardiovascular Hemodynamics also provides case-based and tracing-based quizzes. The reader wil learn to identify disease states and waveform subtleties from single tracings or from case studies. The reader will take the initiative to interpret tracings, understand notches, artifacts, and formulate a diagnosis.
Practical Cardiovascular Hemodynamics will feature: - Complete presentation of basic and advanced hemodynamics
- Numerous case studies allow the reader to learn real-life application of hemodynamic data in clinical decision-making
- Quizzes and explanations provides the reader with self-assessment and problem solving skills
- Over 300 illustrations with detailed discussion

This is a "must have" hemodynamic book. It begins with an outstanding overview of pressure tracings. Very helpful are the pitfalls in interpreting and differentiating the waveforms. The chapters on valvular disorders offer a more in depth analysis when compared with other hemodynamic books available and include a dedicated chapter on assessment of mixed valvular disease.
Complex concepts like constrictive pericarditis and differentiation from restrictive cardiomyopathy and ventricular failure are explained in a simple straight forward manner which makes it easy to understand. The book contains multiple images with very detailed legends which makes it very helpful for someone in search of a quick answer.
Particularly well written is the chapter on FFR with practical points on how to evaluate ostial and bifurcation lesions, diffuse disease and serial stenoses. It also includes a good discussion about the use and limitations of FFR in special situations like ACS, graft lesions, ventricular hypertrophy and viability.
This is the only hemodynamic book including a self-assessment chapter, with 35 cases with excellent explanations that help you sediment your knowledge.
This book is essential for cardiology fellows but can help anyone involve in the care of cardiac patients. Whether you are looking for a quick answer or want a more in depth explanation, this is the book to go to.

As a second-year cardiology fellow, I used to get very confused with hemodynamics during my cath and CCU rotations. This book is a gem, it is clear and logically written, has great explanations of waves and great illustrations. The constrictive pericarditis, valvular disease, and FFR chapters are impressive with echocardiographic and physiologic correlations. I actually liked everything I read, like the nice differentiation between the pressure tracings of various chambers. Some of it requires multiple reads but it is worth it. I realized that I had missed a great deal of the basic understanding of pressure tracing configuration, wedge pressure, shunts.
There are also over 50 cases in a test-answer format probably covering and reviewing most hemodynamic topics. It is like 2 books in 1.
