The Primer has evolved from a "primer" designed for medical students and trainees into a bone biology text. It had a unique niche in the bone field when it provided short and pithy discussions of a broad spectrum of bone disorders. It has now experienced the same fate that has befallen American homes and cars - too big - some might say bloated. While the content is excellent, it is now competing in the textbook market rather than the original "primer" turf. Should be rethought before the next edition.
